INFORMATION
Origin:
The Panther Crab is a species native to Sulawesi (Celebes), endemic to Lake Matano and its surroundings. This rare species is active in twilight and is mainly found in shallow areas and among vegetation. You can see them on the shore, among the leaves and in the undergrowth.
Its form is:
It has a creamy-yellow color with a large number of dark spots, especially concentrated in the center of the shell. The tips of legs and pincers may have stronger orange tones. As for its morphology, it is the classic marine crab with a slightly flattened body and claws of equal size.
Its size is:
Between 5 and 6 cm (shell)
Longevity:
Between 2 and 3 years, although they can live up to 6 years.
Behavior:
They are not usually as territorial as other similar species, however there can always be fights between males. A recommended proportion is one male for every two or three females, always avoiding overpopulation. They are especially delicate after molting, so they must be provided with shelter (otherwise episodes of cannibalism could appear). It is not recommended to combine them with other species (whether invertebrates or fish) since if they are larger than the crab they will probably eat it and if it were the opposite this species would be the one that feeds on them.
