Origin:
Widely distributed. It has been recorded in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Fiji.

Males tend to have a taller dorsal fin when they mature. Females are usually smaller, rounder bodied, and often have a more yellowish body than males.

Behavior:
Don't try to keep it with much smaller species as it will eat anything that fits in its mouth. It may also bite the fins of slow-moving or long-finned species. Ideal tank mates are other hard or brackish water species that inhabit different levels of the aquarium.
Do not combine it with other territorial species that live at the bottom of the aquarium like many cichlids or there may be some aggression. It can be kept in groups, but is also territorial with its peers, so be sure to provide plenty of hiding places if you want to keep some.
