Descrito en Maroni en la Guayana Francesa y ocurre en la mayoría de los drenajes fluviales del país, así como en Guyana, Surinam, la región del delta del Orinoco en Venezuela y la isla de Trinidad, aunque en esta última es posible que no se haya registrado desde la década de 1960.
