Bacopa Madagascar, as you can guess from its name, grows in the waters of the island of Madagascar. The plant has gained great popularity among amateur aquarists mainly due to its properties in purifying aquarium water from fine suspensions and preventing the development of algae, as well as its decorative appearance.

The Madagascar bacopa has a thick stem, about 4 mm thick. The leaves are arranged in pairs, facing each other. The leaves are up to 3 cm long and 0.5 to 1.2 cm wide, with the leaf having the maximum width near its base and the minimum at the tip. The tip of the leaf has a rounded or pointed shape. The plant grows up to 15 cm in height. Under acceptable conditions, bacopa can bloom, releasing purple flowers, the height of which is about 2 cm.

Bacopa Madagascar grows very slowly. It is desirable to plant it in the aquarium in front of the aquarium. In addition, the plant grows very poorly in high aquariums whose height exceeds 50 cm, mainly due to the fact that in such aquariums the plant does not have enough light, and the Madagascar bacopa is particularly demanding.

There are special requirements for lighting. It should be bright, with an intensity of about 0.5-0.7 W/l. You can use combined lighting consisting of fluorescent lamps and incandescent lamps. The duration of daylight hours should be 11 to 12 hours per day. It should be noted that a sign of insufficient lighting is that the lower leaves located on the stem of the plant begin to deteriorate and fall off. With bright light, nutritious soil, and the water temperature recommended above, accelerated plant growth can be achieved.
