Commonly known as dwarf puffer fish

Size M

INFORMATION:

Classification:

Tetraodontidae

Origin:

Endemic to the state of Kerala, India.

Its form is:

Juveniles are difficult to sex correctly, but mature males have a light dark line running along much of the ventral (underside) surface, which females lack.

Typically, males also exhibit a pattern of closely spaced lines just behind the eye.

Sexually mature females usually have a noticeably rounder body than males.

Its size is:

about 2.5cm

Parameters required:

PH: between 6.8 and 8.0

Temperature can range between 22 – 28°C

Aquarium size:

You could keep a single fish in a tank as small as 12.6 liters. If you want to maintain a group, more space is needed.

Feeding:

As with most pufferfish, this species enjoys all types of shellfish, as well as worms and other live or canned foods such as Bloodworms.

It should be fed small snails (with shells) regularly, to keep its teeth sharp.

As with other pufferfish, these grow continually and become a problem for the fish if they are not kept crushed.

Dry foods are not usually accepted.

Behavior:

It is generally not recommended for the community tank as it tends to clip the fins of fish that move slowly or have long fins.

Its small size also means that it does not compete well for food with more active and vigorous species and could easily end up on the menu of larger companions.

Therefore, tankmates must be chosen carefully. Smaller loricariids (particularly Otocinclus spp.) tend to be a decent choice.

There are also reports (with varying degrees of success) of cohabitation with some of the freshwater shrimp species that have become so popular in the hobby in recent years.
