INFORMATION:
Classification:
Order: characiformes
Family: lebiasinidae
Origin:
The type locality is given simply as 'Amazon' by Regan and most modern reports state that this species is widely distributed in the lower Amazon basin in Brazil, in addition to the coastal drainages of Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana, including Demerera, Essequibo, Suriname and Nickerie.
However, it exhibits a degree of variation in certain aspects of morphology and color pattern in this range, and Zarske (2011) considers the Guyana populations to represent C. carsevennensis (Regan, 1912), implying that C. arnoldi sensu stricto is restricted to the lower Amazon basin.
Its form is:
Males grow significantly larger, develop more extended fins, and are more colorful than females.
In males, a broad dark band may extend posteriorly along the body from behind the operculum.
Its size is:
Between 45 – 55 mm
Parameters required:
PH: between 4.0 and 7.5
Temperature can range between 20ºC and 28ºC
Aquarium size:
An aquarium with base dimensions of 90 * 30 cm or larger is recommended.
Feeding:
A good diet for Copella Arnoldi can consist of:
- Canned food type: Artemia and mysis
- Dry feeding type: Insect Nature and Immunpro Nature
Behavior:
Quiet but somewhat unsuitable for the general community aquarium.Perhaps best kept together with characids, gastropelecids, lebiasinids, smaller callyctid or loricariid catfishes of similar size, and tiny non-predatory cichlids.
Try to buy a mixed group of at least 8-10 specimens, include other schooling fish for security, and you will be rewarded with a more natural looking show.
The males will also display their best colors and fascinating behavior as they compete with each other for the attention of the females.
