INFORMATION:
Classification:
Order: Callichthyidae
Family: Corydoradinae
Origin:
Bolivia and Brazil. The type specimen was collected in the Guaporé River. However, it can be difficult to get hold of wild specimens these days. Virtually all fish that enters commerce is produced commercially in fish farms. Most of those on sale in the UK come from Eastern Europe or the Far East. These captive-bred fish are generally more hardy and adaptable than their wild counterparts, as they were raised in conditions far removed from their natural habitat.
Its form is:
Like most corys, it is easy to sex when viewed from above. Females are noticeably rounder and broader-bodied than males, especially when filled with eggs. They are often a bit larger as well.
Its size is:
6.5cm
Parameters required:
PH: between 6.0 and 7.6
Temperature can range between 24ºC and 28ºC
Aquarium size:
42.5 liters is big enough for a small group of these.
Feeding:
A good diet for Corydora can consist of:
- Canned food type: Bloodworms
- Dry feeding type: Insect Nature and Immunpro Nature
Under no circumstances should they be expected to survive on the "leftovers" of other aquarium inhabitants or depend on them to "clean" the aquarium.
Behavior:
Very calm and suitable for many community tanks. Don't store it with anything too large or aggressive. Good tank mates include small characins, cyprinids, anabantoids, dwarf cichlids, and other peaceful catfish. Always try to keep Corydoras in groups, as they are much more confident and active in the presence of their peers. A group of at least six is best.
